CE Mark
Carbon Monoxide Alarms are one of a number of products, which in order to be offered for sale within the EEA (European Economic Area) must show a CE mark. The EU Directives require that the CE mark refer to all of the applicable directives.
For Carbon Monoxide Alarms a CE mark does NOT refer to the ability to detect gases. A CE mark on the product would show conformity in relation to electrical safety aspects. In particular:
The Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC) and The EMC – Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (89/336/EEC)
However the manufacturer itself or an authorised representative can sign a CE mark “declaration of conformity”, so look for independent confirmation of conformity. The BSi – British Standards Institute are an accredited certification laboratory.
